  4. The surfaces shall be free from scratches, tool marks, dents, material defects etc. The surfaces shall be protected properly during subsequent operations if any, inspection, storage and transportation with extra care.
  5. All Oxide layers, oil, greases, dirt and other contaminants to be removed at all stages of manufacturing by suitable cleaning methods. After chemical and ultrasonic cleaning, the chemicals are to be removed by rinsing in DM water followed by hot air drying.
  6. Leak tightness of the seals shall be better than 1 X 10-9 mbar lit/sec. of He
  7. Manufacturing Procedure and Workmanship

6.1.1          The manufacturing procedure shall in no way impair the chemical composition and properties of the materials either by deterioration or by pick up of impurities.

6.1.2          The manufacturing procedure shall be such as to achieve the requirements of the dimensional consistency.

6.1.3          The manufacturing process selected and machines used shall be such that the components have required concentricity, surface finish and other dimensional tolerances without chatter marks or embedded built up edges etc.

  1. Workmanship

7.2.1   Workmanship shall be of high standard of engineering and shall be good enough to achieve necessary quality of the items, surface finish etc. as required.

7.2.2   The vendor shall have necessary qualified operators, supervisors and inspectors to achieve the quality of the item.  They should have a thorough knowledge to the machining procedure, quality planning, gauge designing, and packing.

  1. Inspection, Marking & Reports
  2. 9.1 Quality Assurance Plan

9.1.1          A detailed quality Assurance Plan in line with this specification shall be submitted and the same shall be got approved by the purchaser before commencing the manufacturing activities.

9.2           Inspection:

9.2.1          Chemical analysis of the raw materials for a lot shall be done by reputed agency

9.2.2          The seals are also subjected to thermal cycling and thermal shock upto 2000C during destructive testing.

9.3           Dimensional Inspection

9.3.1          The calibration of instruments and gauges has to be made at a reputed labs and a reference has to be kept with them for the same

9.3.2          All GO and NOGO gauges if any, shall be got done from standard gauges manufacturer conforming to IS 3455

9.3.3          Measuring instruments when used for inspection shall have a least count better than 10% of the corresponding dimensional tolerance.

9.4           Visual Inspection:

All the seals after the manufacturing shall be visually inspected for any scratches, dent marks, cracks, folds, other material defects, damages or any other surface irregularities.

9.4.1.1    Sample inspection for Leak tightness and linear load requirement A random sample will be picked from each lot of 100 production batch and will be tested on a test piece having circular machining layers, surface finish of which shall be between 0.8 to 1.6µm Ra.  Test set up shall have the facility for Helium Leak detection as well as the facility for recording load vs seal compression along with thermal cycling upto 2000C.  If the seal fails in first test one more random sample will be picked up. If the seal fails in second test also, the entire batch will be rejected.  Load vs seal Compression behavior for leak tightness of seals while loading and unloading shall be similar from batch to batch.
